Caffeine with a capital C. Is it good? Is it evil? Is it bad for your body or is it a panacea and elixir of life?
I’ve been drinking coffee for years. I started while cramming for my Os. I even ate coffee powder back then, looking back, that was some mad shit. I aced my exams however, which was the ultimate goal.
I guess like with anything else, moderation is the key. Too much of anything is not a good thing anyway. However, I am addicted.
I tried stopping caffeine over the weekend. By day 2, I promptly went back to it. Sluggish, tired, unmotivated, cloudy, that’s how I felt on day 1 of my no-caffeine-plan. I also felt pain. Tremendous pain in the form of pounding thunderous headaches which sent jolts of crippling agony with each pulse of my heart. Ok that’s exagerrating a bit but it was still pretty darn agonizing.
I have a theory about caffeine headaches. They are the result of toxins built up in the body accumulated through caffeine use. My hypothesis is that caffeine halts the natural detox process in the body. It triggers the body’s emergency flight or fight response, prepping it up for an ‘ultimate state of mind’, relieving pain, postponing sleep and rest, etc. This accumulates a kind of body ‘debt’ which expresses itself in the form of fatigue and toxin accumulation. Of course, repeated caffeine use halts the user from feeling these symptoms. It is only when they stop caffeine, are they alerted to the true state of their body.
